Goals

Student Learner and Long Range Student Achievement Goals
The district advisory committee recommended Long Range and Annual Improvement Goals to the Board of Education. Data analyzed included scores on ITBS, ITED, ACT, Work Keys, DIBELS, and CBM in reading, mathematics, and science. Additional data was student information from the Iowa Youth Survey, attendance data, STW survey data used by Success4, Behavior Survey data used by Success4, and Iowa’s Annual Condition of Education Report. The district compared the local data to the state’s data in the condition of Education Report, and to national and international information from National Assessment of Educational Progress and the Third International Math and Science Study. As a result the Board of Education adopted the following student learner goals on February 17, 2000:

Student Learner Goals:
The Students of the Manning Community School District will demonstrate:
A. Personal, Interpersonal, and Social Responsibility

•Work with others in a variety of situations to set and achieve goals.
•Take responsibility for personal actions and act ethically (demonstrate honesty, fairness, integrity, etc.)
•Demonstrate an understanding of and responsibility for global and environmental issues.
•Act as responsible citizens in the school, community, state, and nation.

B. Effective Communication Skills
•Communicate with clarity, purpose and understanding of audience.
•Integrate the use of a variety of communication forms and use a wide range of communication skills.
•Recognize, analyze, and evaluate various forms of communication.

C. Self Directed and Knowledgeable Learning
•Use a variety of learning strategies, personal skills, and time management skills to create quality work.
•Connect knowledge and experiences from different subject areas to solve problems and complete tasks.
•Reflect on and evaluate their learning for the purpose of improvement.
•Use what they already know to acquire new knowledge, develop new skills, and expand understanding.

D. Effective Thinking and Reasoning Skills
Critical Thinking, Problem-Solving, and Creative Thinking
•Generate new and creative ideas by taking considered risks in a variety of contexts.
•Utilize, evaluate and refine the use of multiple strategies to solve problems.
•Gather and use information, classify and organize information, support inferences and justify conclusions appropriate to the situation and audience.

Long Range Goals
The following long range goals were adapted from the March, 2000 goals by the District Staff Development Committee and approved by the Board of Education on June 10, 2004:
LONG RANGE GOAL #1: Improve the performance of all students on district-wide assessments in reading.
LONG RANGE GOAL #2: Improve the performance of all students on district-wide assessments in math.
LONG RANGE GOAL #3: Improve the performance of all students on district-wide assessments in science.
LONG RANGE GOAL #4: All students will improve proficiency and demonstrate meaningful use of
technology in curricular areas.
LONG RANGE GOAL #5: All students will feel safe at and connected to school.
