Introduction - Task - Process - Resources - Evaluation - Conclusion

Introduction

Graduation is not too far away (only six years). It is time to start investigating and learning about different careers. In this unit you will be exposed to different careers, choose one career to research, and produce a paper and presentation about that career for your peers.

Task

You will:

  • investigate your interests and abilities
  • identify a career that fits your interests and abilities
  • research your chosen career
  • develop a research paper
  • present a short career presentation

Process

  • Complete the Job-O exploration packet.
  • Go to The Career Game and complete the activities. Take the time to investigate your interests and abilities. Read the information about careers.
  • Go to The Career Key and compete the activities. From the two Holland code experiences, decide what your code should be and choose a career to research further.
  • Research your chosen career. Using at least four different sources, answer the following questions to be addressed further in your research paper. Sources must include one book, one interview, and one Internet site. Sources will be sited on the Works Sited page of the research paper.

    * 1. What skills and aptitudes should I have to be competitive in this career?

    * 2. What education and training would I need?

    * 3. What would my work environment or surroundings be like?

    * 4. What hours would I spend on the job?

    * 5. What types of skills will be performed in this career?

    * 6. What responsibilities would I have?

    * 7. Would I be able to move ahead?

    * 8. What is the job outlook for this career?

    * 9. What does this career pay?

    * 10. What other rewards would this career provide?

  • Develop a research paper that informs others about your chosen career. From the paper, create a short presentation that will allow your peers to learn more about your chosen career. The presentation should include the following:

    * What is the name of the job?

    * What does a person do in this job?

    * What type of education is necessary to prepare for this career?

    * What are the pay and other benefits of this job?

    * Is there any other information about this career that is

important? (For example, will you have to relocate to perform

    the job?)
