COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Elective P.E curriculum is designed to provide a variety of lifetime, team, and physical conditioning activities. Sportsmanship, respect for other students, equipment, and instructors is also an emphasis in Elective P.E.
COURSE BENCHMARKS:
1. Develops an understanding of basic rules and skills of team and individual games
2. Demonstrates basic rules, skills, and knowledge of lifetime sports and activities.
3. Builds a positive self-esteem through movement and exercise.
4. Develops strength, endurance and flexibility during class
5. Works well with others and demonstrates respect for classmates, equipment and instructors

Benchmark 1: Develops an understanding of basic rules and skills of team and individual games
Indicators:
1. List basic rules of play for team games.
2. Demonstrates skills needed for team games.
3. Simulates an understanding of rules through participation in team sports.
4. Demonstrates knowledge and skills through a variety of written and skills tests.
5. Develops skills and rules needed for racket sports. (Ping-Pong, Racquetball, and Pickle Ball)
Benchmark Demonstrates basic rules, skills, and knowledge of lifetime sports and activties.
Indicators:
1. Apply rules that are needed to perform lifetime sports and leisure activities.
2. Performs basic skills for success in lifetime activities through skill testing.
3. List the benefits of walking, biking, and roller skating\roller blading as lifetime activities.
4. Can list a variety of lifetime sports. ( Archery, Bowling, and Golf)
Benchmark 3 Builds a positive self-esteem through movement and exercise.
Indicators:
1. Discuss fitness activities that make students feel good about themselves.
2. Observe students working together while participating in Aerobics and Stunts and Tumbling
3. Describe how the use of weight training improves self-esteem.
4. Compile a list of exercises that make students feel good about themselves.
Benchmark 4: Develops strength, endurance and flexibility during class.
Indicators:
1. Define the difference between strength, endurance, and flexibility.
2. Perform exercises that develop strength,endurance, and flexibility.
3. Describe how these three components of fitness will benefit you as you grow older.
4. List the games and activities that we during class that enhance strength, endurance, and flexibility.
Benchmark 5: Works well with others and demonstrates respect for classmates, equipment and instructors.
Indicators:
1. Demonstrates sportsmanship during group and individual activities during class.
2. Uses appropriate language and treats others the way they want to be treated.
3. Applies rules that are needed to keep the P.E. equipment in good shape for others to use.
