Tour Stop #3
Research the
Southeast

If you're going to be able to give someone a tour, you'll need to have plenty of background information. So use the following websites to learn more about this region of the US. Be sure to write in your journal what you discover. Keep in mind that you will later be creating a slideshow about the states that you have been assigned. Keep your eyes open for key information or graphics that will enhance your project. Remember to cite your resources.

As you research keep these questions in mind.

1. What agricultural products/crops are grown in the southeast? Try to identify why these products are grown in this area.

2. Why do you think that every state doesn't grow the same type of crops? Give 2 reasons.

3. What natural resources are found in the southeast? What are they used for?

4. Look at the population of each of the southeast states. Tell me how they each rank and list what effect this might have on the state.

5. Suppose you were taking a trip to the southeast this winter. What clothes would you pack?

6. How would you compare and contrast the climate in Iowa with the climate in one of the southeast states?

7. Explore what types of economic activity (industry, manufacturing) is found in the southeast and generalize why?

8. Who makes up the population in the southeast?

9. Look at the state symbols of your assigned states. Can you give reasons why these symbols were chosen?

10. Describe the landforms found in the southeast. How do they affect the economy of the region?
